Enter the Cut-Man
by Walt Ressmeyer
(entry February 2010): please see all of Walt's entries in "Games with Notes". These are invaluable chess games and insights into the club's history and many of the significant players who were active members of the club. We can never go home, but we will always have Paris!
I am not sure if I should file this under chess game or knife fight? I throw caution to the wind (along with good judgment) and indulge John Jackson in his pet line of the Sicilian Defense. The following game was a slug-fest, most likely containing some errors, (especially at that time control), however the gallery seemed to really enjoy the carnage.

I wanted to include a game which I had played from each decade and
after a12 year absence from chess, this game is amongst my early efforts in returning to competitive play. I had walked away from the game in '77, not having time. Focusing my efforts on college and playing bass during the 80's, I had left my 'ol friend chess behind. Coming back into the club, there was a whole new cast of characters; M.T.Smith, Steve Vinson, Afzal Chowdurry, John Last, Morgan Cooper, Denny Marbourg, Marty Philips, Ralph Davis, Adrian Ford, Stan Horton, Mitch Jordan, Chris McFall, Will Starnes, Clarence Townsend, Orn Backstrum, etc etc. just to name a few. Some old-timers ie. Greg Williamson, Bob Daves, Dwight Crocker, Roger Pagel (who I recall from earlier days) were still around. Much had changed nobody used English descriptive notation to score their games, and roll flex boards were the order of the day. Chess was still to be had in the clubs, as the Internet was yet to offer on-line sites. During the next five years I would throw myself into this pursuit.
