One should note that John Pyle was a intense player would played in the World Open earning $800 in his day. He was a stalwart of Springfield Chess. He would hover over the board, his balding head prominent as he calculated his attack. Unfortunately, Mr. Pyle is no long with us, but he is remember for his grace and good sportsmanship. Of note, too, Robert Talbot still plays chess in the Joplin area and attends tournaments at the Springfield Park Board Chess Club now and then. (updated October 2017)
